When I bought Five Urdu Bibles in February 2009 — the week after the Lord healed me — I had no idea that sixteen years later we would be standing here counting past the 150,000th Urdu Bible placed into a Pakistani home.
I only knew this: every Pakistani deserves to meet Jesus in their own language. And I was willing to start with five.
One Bible. One Soul. One Eternal Destiny.
From Five to 150,000
It is easy to celebrate the number. It is harder — and more important — to remember the stories behind it. Every single one of those 150,000 Urdu Bibles went into the hands of a real Pakistani person, in a real Pakistani village or city, at a real moment in a real life.
Some went to Gospel Crusade attendees who walked up to receive prayer and left with Scripture in their hands for the very first time. Some went to brand-new believers after a village church plant. Some went to rural pastors who carried them home on motorbikes to congregations that had shared a single Bible for decades. Some went to factory workers, widows, brick-kiln families, prisoners, students, and mothers who cried reading the words of Jesus in their own language.
150,000 Urdu Bibles is not a milestone. It is 150,000 beginnings.
Why Urdu Specifically?
Urdu is the heart language of more than 230 million people across Pakistan. It is what Pakistani children dream in, pray in, fight in, and weep in. But for most Pakistani Christian households, an Urdu Bible has historically been scarce, expensive, and difficult to find openly.
A full Urdu Bible in Pakistan typically costs the equivalent of several days’ wages for a low-income family. For the poorest — which describes the majority of our nation’s Christians — that cost is a barrier between a soul and the Scripture God wrote for them.
So we removed the cost. Every Urdu Bible distributed by Good Samaritan Ministries is completely free to the recipient. No purchase, no donation required, no strings attached. Just The Word of God, freely given, as the Gospel itself was freely given to us.
Where Bibles Travel Through Our Network
Every Urdu Bible sponsored through our ministry travels through a specific path into Pakistani hands:
- Gospel Crusades — every attendee receives a Bible on the night they respond
- Church Plants — every new congregation opens with enough Bibles for every family
- Rural Pastors — bikes + Bibles together reach entire village clusters
- Brick-kiln and persecution rescues — Bibles accompany every family we set free
- Children’s illustrated Bibles — over 50,000 of our 150,000 total have been children’s editions for young Pakistani readers
- Pastors’ Reference Bibles — specifically formatted for preaching and study
Testimonies From The Field
A brother in Multan wrote: “Receiving a free Urdu Bible meant the world to me. Now I read it every day.”
A church leader in Sialkot: “We received 50 Bibles for our church’s outreach program. Without this ministry, we couldn’t have reached so many people.”
A Lahore pastor: “The free Urdu Bibles transformed our church. Now every family in our congregation has God’s Word in Urdu.”
A village mother in Sindh: “The first book our family has ever owned is a Bible in our own language.”
The Road to One Million by 2033
We have set our eyes on one million free Urdu Bibles distributed by the year 2033 — the 24th anniversary of Good Samaritan Ministries Pakistan. That means another 850,000 Bibles between now and then. It is a big number. It is also a small one compared to the 240 million souls who share this land with us.
The math is simple: at an average sponsorship cost of US $6 per Bible (printing, shipping, personal placement), one million Bibles require six million dollars spread across seven years. That is less than what many Western churches spend on a single building project — and far more eternal.
How You Can Help Us Get There
Every partner matters. Every Bible matters. If the Lord would place this on your heart, here is how you can walk with us toward one million:
- $6 sponsors one Urdu Bible
- $30 sponsors five Bibles for a village
- $120 sponsors twenty Bibles for a crusade night
- $600 sponsors 100 Bibles — enough for an entire district
- $6,000 sponsors 1,000 Bibles — one-thousandth of our 2033 goal
Visit our Free Urdu Bibles page to sponsor, or partner with us directly through Good Samaritan Ministries.
150,000 is a gift. One million is a promise. By God’s grace, and with partners like you, we will get there.
